The must haves.

No one can deny the exhilarating feeling that travel can give. In the same way, no one can deny the deep feeling of anxiety, guilt, and regret when you realize that your phone is dead and you’re stuck in the airport with nothing to do except spend 25 dollars on an obviously overpriced charger. That’s not so budget-friendly, is it?

It’s no secret that travel is full of surprises - some welcome, and others not so much. Making sure that you have your plane and travel essentials is, well, essential. So, without further ado, here’s what needs to be on your list (and, yes, you do need a list).

Technology

  • Converter

  • Power bank

  • Charger

  • Headphones/Earbuds

This should pretty much go without saying, but make sure that these items are in your carry-on bag. It’s of no help if your charger is in checked baggage when you need it on the plane.

Health

  • Wipes

  • Sanitizer

  • Spare masks

  • An empty water bottle to fill up post-security

  • Snacks

  • Sanitary products

  • Blanket/Sweater

It should be of no surprise that planes can be extremely dirty, no matter how often it is cleaned. In general, but especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, making sure that you stay healthy on your trip is of the utmost importance. Having wipes and sanitizer is great for cleaning your hands and any surfaces, and spare masks are very important, especially with foreign regulations that you might not be so familiar with.

Staying hydrated is another important part of travel, so make sure that you have a personal bottle to fill up before boarding as well as some snacks to keep your stomach and cravings in check. Plus, who doesn't love an extra excuse to snack?

Other

  • An activity: whether this be a good book, a crochet project, or sudoku, make sure you have something non-technological to keep you entertained

  • Money: a credit/debit card and cash- in both foreign and home currencies

  • Purse/Bag/Fannypack: basically anything that can safely hold your belongings

It's important to be organized while traveling. You need to have your passport, boarding pass, and any extra travel documentation on hand at all times. Losing any of this important documentation is not really an option.

Everything listed above are either everyday items that most people already have or, if not, gentle on the wallet - and just a drugstore visit away! Safe travels, Across the Waves!
